I thought you might be interested to hear about some updates to the Facebook service that we are launching today.
These changes are designed to make it easier and clearer for people to decide who they want to see any piece of information when they post it on Facebook. This includes being able to control when information posted by other people about you appears on your profile - this was a very commonly requested feature from our users. There are also some important new ways for people to be able to give feedback on content about them that they do not like.
These new features will be rolled out in a phased way starting from the end of this week. In order to help people understand the changes they will be required to go through a special tour of the features and controls which includes links to more detailed information and advice.
Please note that this does not make any changes to people’s existing privacy settings which will be carried over through the updates. What we will additionally offer in future is the ability for people to go back over their old content and change who this is shared with. This was not previously possible and will give people a new level of control if they post something and change their mind about who should see it.
We have published a blog post that that explains the changes we are making in full which you can see at https://blog.facebook.com/
If you would like more in-depth information about each specific change you can also read these dedicated pages:
We hope that these changes will improve the experience of people using Facebook by giving them even more control over how they wish to share their information on the Internet. If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to get in touch with me or the relevant member of my team.
