Connecting Generations: Discover the digital world together ... safely!

The Safer Internet Day was celebrated this year on February 7th, 2012. Every year Europe organizes a campaign on Safer Internet, which takes place simultaneously in all European countries. The 2012 campaign focused on connecting generations and promoting mutual education among children and parents, using the slogan "Discover the digital world together ... safely!"
The activities carried out during the Safer Internet Day were: February 7th 2012, Conference at Hilton Park, Nicosia, which was attended by students, teachers and the general public. Moreover, another event took place on the same day at My Mall, Limassol, 16:00 to 19:00, (Live link Third program of CYBC and the program "Open Line" presented by Mr. Mikis Kasapis). On Saturday, February 11, 2012, from 11:00 to 13:30, there is an event scheduled to promote Safer Internet at The Mall of Cyprus, Nicosia with the participation of CYBC's radio show "Children on air" presented by Mr. Kyriakos Pastida).
Among these events, the Safer Internet Helpline (70000116) and Hotline (22674747) were promoted in order to inform the public about the services that exist in Cyprus.
CyberEthics, the Cyprus Safer Internet Centre, which is co- funded by the European Council for the sixth year, has undertaken the task to promote this campaign in Cyprus. Cyprus Neuroscience and Technology Institute (www.cnti.org.cy) is the coordinator of this project with partners: the Ministry of Education and Culture and more specifically the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute, CYTA, the Pancyprian Coordinating Committee for the Protection and Welfare of Children, as well as the Olive Branch Foundation. The Centre collaborates closely with the Cyber Crime Unit of the Police to offer through its Hotline (22674747) a site for anonymous complaints about websites that may be illegal or disturbing. The Centre also offers a service of psychological support, the Cyberethics Helpline at 70 000116, where people can anonymously seek for help or advice on internet related issues.
CyberEthics offers information on Safer Internet related issues to students, parents and teachers. Interested parties can contact the Centre for jointly organizing activities. The project's website which contains a lot of useful information and material can be accessed at www.CyberEthics.info.
